What is Physical Geodesy
Physical Geodesy is the science of the study and interpretation of the influence of physical forces like gravitation, centrifugal forces, tidal forces, and tectonic forces on observable objects and phenomena such as the gravity fields of the Earth and other planets, the sea surface, Earth rotation, heights and height systems, Earth tides, and plate tectonics.
Research Topics
The main research interests of the Physical Geodesy Study Group involve the gravimetric geoid/quasigeoid modelling, geodetic boundary-value problems, forward modelling in gravimetry, regional inversion of the GRACE satellite data, mathematical cartography, coordinate transformation, theory of heights, geodynamics, and the Moho density interface recovery using gravimetric methods.
